Cows and the Country

First of all let me say that Jill and I were raised in the country.  We grew up around farms and ranches.  As a matter of fact, Jill has even been involved in the birth process of farm animals.

Our kids on the other hand have not had much exposure to farm animals.  Aside from their one time per year trip to Jill's brother's farm, they don't even see cows around here.  While we were at my grandmothers for Christmas, my uncle took my kids and my brother's kids to go feed the cows.  While feeding a couple of classic lines were dropped by my sweet Presley and my 5 year old nephew Caden.

Presley...She was interested to know who the parents were to all of the baby cows.  She would ask my uncle..."who is that cows daddy?"  My uncle would point to the bull and say "that one."  Then she would point to another baby cow and ask..."who is that cows daddy?"  Again my uncle would point to the bull and say "that one."  After several times Presley finally dropped the question..."Why do they all have the same daddy?"  My uncle quickly changed the subject.

Caden...The funniest question was asked by my nephew Caden.  After driving around the pasture for a while, he asked my uncle..."Why do all of the cows have price tags in their ears?"  Good question!

Out...

Time for 2008!!!

Well, Christmas is over and it is time for a New Year.  My family just enjoyed a great Christmas season and I am ready for 2008.  I always look forward to Christmas every year.  It is awesome to see my kids have such a great time (and they did).  We are still cleaning up the aftermath of Christmas.  Today's chores include purging old toys to take to Goodwill so we can make room for all of the new stuff.

Back to 2008...As excited as I get for Christmas, I think I get equally excited for a New Year.  The last few years I have not worked much (if any) the week of Christmas and New Years.  It is always a great time to recharge my batteries and get ready for another year.  By the time, Jan 2 gets here I am ready to go back to work.

Like most businesses, my business is measured and based on annual goals.  On December 31, the big eraser comes out and it all starts over again.  This is a good thing when you have a bad year and a bad thing when you have a good year.  It is all about "what have you done for me lately."  Some whine and complain about this, but I love it.  It keeps us all focused and makes everyone more productive.

Duck Hunting:  On a more interesting note...I went on another great duck hunt on Wednesday afternoon.  Five of us (including 9 year old Zachary) killed 17 birds.  Zachary T. killed his first birds with his new shotgun he got for X-mas.  That was just awesome.  Watching a young kid shoot his first birds with his new shotgun was really cool.  The rest of the story is that Zachary shot 3 birds with one shot.  He now has a great story to tell his kids and grandkids someday.

That's all I have for now....Out.

Blog Entry #2

That's right, this is blog entry #2.  I'm still not quite used to sharing my life, but I am still trying.
I went on another duck hunt on Saturday and we had a blast.  We didn't kill a ton of birds, but we had a good hunt.  I have posted some pics for all of the dudes (like Jason Wolfe) to check out.
Maybe the coolest part of my day Saturday was when I brought the ducks home to clean them.  Payton (my "boy") was touching the ducks and playing with them.  She couldn't keep her hands off of them.  That's right, blood and all...she was all over it!  Presley (miss priss) on the other hand was cool with looking at the dead ducks from a distance.  She didn't want to get too close and she absolutely did not want to touch them.  It's funny how different they are!

I'm a Blogger

Thank you Jill for forcing me into blogging.  I am not sure I am in to this quite yet, but I told Jill I will give it a try.  I love to read Jill's blog and see what is on her mind... so I thought it would be fair to her that I spew a little of what is going on with me.

I have a "gun" to my head right now to create this first blog entry so it is a little difficult to be creative and come up with something interesting to talk about, so this entry will be a little vanilla.

All I know at this point in my life is that I have the best family in the world.  I have a hot wife (extremely hot!) and two beautiful girls.  My business is doing great and everyone is healthy.  Couldn't ask for much more than that.

Well that is about all I have for this first blog...look for more in the future.
